What is an American?

An American is someone who lives in and embraces American culture.  This is what an American is because is because the United States is rather new country so people can trace their heritage back before it.  If the definition of an American is any more narrowed then very few to no people will be able to call themselves American.  It is important to be able to call yourself an American because it gives people a bigger connection and stronger attachment to the United States.

  2. I agree with your view of an American being one who embrace sthe American Culture, but I do not agree with your point that an American is someone who must live in the United States. Technically, an American can be Canadian, or Mexican, or from the United States. North Americans are considered Americans, as well as South Amerians. Having a stronger connection to the United States can be true, but the overall idea is having an overall connection to your heritage or nationality. This is how I view it.

  3. I agree with Sebastian's point that there's a lot more to America than just the US. I do think it is important to call yourself an American too, but still be somewhat connected to where you're from.
